Sterilizing Your Gardening Tools to Keep Your Landscape Beautiful
Did you know dirty gardening tools can transfer fungus and disease-causing pathogens to your plants? Rest assured the solution is easy. Clean your tools before you put them away!
Here’s how in three simple steps:
Step 1 – Wipe Them Down
Wipe down your tools with a damp cloth or paper towel, getting rid of any soil particles and debris.
Step 2 – Disinfect
Using household disinfectants like Lysol®, Chlorine Bleach, or Pine-Sol® you’ll be able to properly sterilize.
Lysol ® – Fill a bucket with 20% liquid Lysol ® and 80% water. Then soak the tools for several minutes.
Chlorine Bleach – Create a bleach solution of 10% bleach and 90% water. Then soak your tools for 30 minutes.
Pine Sol ® – Fill a bucket with enough Pine-Sol ® to cover your tools, then soak them for 1 or 2 minutes.
Step 3 – Rinse and Dry
Rinse your tools with water to remove any solution residue that may cause corrosion. Dry them before putting them away.
